Fashion Design

Originality in fashion design results from a rigorous process of developing and editing ideas to solve specific design problems.

Fashion students, working with professional faculty and guest design mentors, are trained in all aspects of the design process. Working in teams, they create clothing for several mentors simultaneously, emulating the fashion design studio, and following the industry’s seasonal schedule.

Note: Some students may be required to take ENGL400 Great Speeches as determined by the School of Fashion Design.
Important note: All students must pass with a “C” grade or better in studio, design and illustration at all levels in order to continue with the fashion program. Working with a mentor is considered an earned privilege, not a right; therefore, students are required to maintain a “C+” g.p.a. in design and studio throughout the design process in order to work with a mentor.

Students in the Fashion Design Department are trained in all aspects of the design process, as the school year follows the industry schedule, where several seasons are designed simultaneously. They also work with professional mentors who prepare them for work in the fashion design studio. Fashion Design faculty members work in the field where they keep current with the ever-changing fashion scene. Our students learn more than the skills needed to sew and draw: they learn to meet deadlines with creativity and self-discipline. Otis Fashion alumni enter the design world as assistant designers, associate designers, illustrators, costume designers, textile designers, accessory designers, and product designers. Some open their own clothing line immediately upon graduation.
