|The fundamental elements, processes and language of two-dimensional design involve a range of materials, tools, organizing principles, and ways of thinking. In learning about design, various assignments are undertaken to focus attention and foster skill acquisition related to individual design elements. Some of the design elements studied are line, shape, form, compositional devices, and stylistic attitudes.
Since Principles of Design is a 6-hour (weekly) class, much of the work is accomplished in class. Students use many processes, including the precise use of various media such as painting, photography, and digital media.
In second semester, the 6-hour Principles of Design course becomes an Integrated Learning course: Connections Through Color and Design. Connections provides a unique learning experience that expands the traditional classroom to include resources and expertise from other fields and input from members of the larger community.
