Make Loneliness · J. Reuben Appelman

"You are distant sufferings of the passive tense, an excerpt as lineage. There are coffee shops in Brooklyn you take as your own, but that’s a parking lot. ß Here is where I have attempted to say something important, believing myself. Your father was never completed, and in subsequent billings may also have been mailed. In moments I looked for him, in scenarios found nothing. At checkpoints, was questioned as earmark: What is the precise angle of retraction in this poem? What is pepper spray? In some back alley hour, a partial payment?"

J. Reuben Appleman is a poet, novelist and screenwriter who has worked on numerous projects for film and television including Playground, executive produced by George Clooney, and the children’s adventure film The Five.  Appleman is a multiple grant recipient from the Idaho Commission on the Arts and teaches at Boise State University.
