Down with the Ship · Ryan Murphy

"History is a poor eternity.
I am thinking of the cool shaded rooms of Havana,
The opulent ruin,
Built for its own obsolescence.

Hey, Coca-Cola!
Rain in the bottom of the sixth."

Ryan Murphy’s work, which includes the book Down with the Ship (2006) as well as the chapbooks The Gales, Ocean Park, and On Violet Street, has been praised for its tangential structure and discombobulated syntax. He is a recipient of the 2005 Chelsea Magazine Award for Poetry as well as a grant from the Fund for Poetry. His poetry has appeared in the The Denver Quarterly and The Paris Review.
