February 22: Dennis Loy Johnson

Dennis Loy Johnson is the founder of the book blog MobyLives and co-founder and publisher of Melville House, where he has published Lewis Lapham, Bernard-Henri Levy, Imre Kertesz, and Tao Lin, among others, as well as the final book by Jacques Derrida.  Johnson is also a short story writer whose work has been awarded a Pushcart Prize and an NEA fellowship. He is the author The Big Chill: The Great, Unreported Story of the Bush Inaugural Protests, and the editor, with Valerie Merians, of the anthologies Poetry After 9/11 and What We Do Now.

March 7:  Ilya Kaminsky and Joshua Kryah

Poet Ilya Kaminsky was born in Odessa came to the US in 1993.  He is the author of Dancing In Odessa, which won the Metcalf Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Dorset Prize, and the Ruth Lilly Fellowship awarded by Poetry magazine. Poetry also gave Kaminsky its Levinson Prize for a work-in-progress, Deaf Republic. He is the editor of the Ecco Anthology of International Poetry, and his poetry written in Russian was chosen for “Bunker Poetico” at the Venice Bienial Festival.  A co-founder of Poets For Peace, Kaminsky has received a Lannan Foundation fellowship and a Whiting Writer’s Award.  He has taught at Harvard and Naropa and currently is on the faculty of the MFA Program in Creative Writing at San Diego State University, as well as Director of the Harriet Monroe Poetry Institute at The Poetry Foundation.

Joshua Kryah is the author of two collections of poetry, We Are Starved and Glean, winner of the Nightboat Poetry Prize. His
 poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, Denver Quarterly,
 FIELD, The Iowa Review, and Ploughshares, among other journals. Kryah is the poetry editor of Witness and teaches at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

March 14: Sarah Bynum

Sarah Bynum recently joined the Otis Graduate Writing Program as Assistant Chair.  She is the author of two novels, Madeleine is Sleeping, a finalist for the National Book Award and winner of the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize, and Ms. Hempel Chronicles, a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award.  Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Tin House, Triquarterly, the Georgia Review and in Best American Short Stories. In 2010, Bynum was named one of the New Yorker’s top "20 Under 40" fiction writers.

April 11:  OTIS BOOKS Reading: Piercing the Page:  Selected Poems 1966-1989 by Antonio Porta

Otis Books is proud to publish Piercing the Page:  Selected Poems 1966-1989 by Antonio Porta, edited with an introduction by Gian Maria Annovi, and an essay by Umberto Eco. This extensive selection of poetry by Antonio Porta (1935-1989) represents one of the highest and most intense achievements of postwar Italian literature. Hosting the evening will be long-time friend and Porta translator Paul Vangelisti, and  joining the celebration will be Porta's widow, Rosemary Liedl, and the book's editor, Gian Maria Annovi, as well as other poets who will read Porta's work.

April 18:  Justin Torres

Justin Torres’ first novel We the Animals was published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in 2011 to critical acclaim.  His work has appeared in Granta, Tin House, and Glimmer Train. Torres received the Rolón Fellowship in Literature from United States Artists and is currently a Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford.
