Fine Arts presents “From Spark to Flame: Photographic Evidence of Heightened Neurological Activity,” an exhibition of work by photography students curated by Kate Harding ('03). Reception, Friday, December 3, 6-8 pm.
Inspired by a recently published neuroscientific study in which scientists used Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to discover that the brain’s reward center lights up with activity when it witnesses others receiving financial benefits, even more so than when it receives the benefit. In a difficult economy, this information, and the photographs in the study, are optimistic, and indicate our inherent capacity for generosity. Fine Arts Program Director of Photography Soo Kim and colleague Alex Slade, worked with the students and new photographic equipment to create an exhibition that celebrates Otis’ partnership with the Department of Cultural Affairs, Playa del Oro and Playa L& M Enterprises.
