Join students, alumni, faculty and staff for a celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Graduate Writing Program. At 6:30 Roy Dowell, Chair of Graduate Fine Arts, will lead a tour in the Ben Maltz Gallery of "The Story of O," an exhibition of work by 20 alumni of the MFA program from 1989-2009.
At 7 pm, a reception will take place in the Galef Lobby, followed by readings by Grad Writing alums Gilad Elbom (MFA, '03) and Barbara Maloutas (MFA, "02) at 7:45 in the Forum. Alumnus Gilad Elbom also holds degrees from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the University of North Dakota. His first novel, Scream Queens of the Dead Sea, was published by Thunder's Mouth Press in 2004.
Otis Communication Arts Assistant Chair and Graduate Writing Program alumna Barbara Maloutas is the author of In a Combination of Practices, published by New Issues, and Practices, published by New Michigan Press/Diagram. Her work has appeared in Aufgabe, FreeVerse, Segue, Tarpaulin Sky, Good Foot, The New Review of Literature, bird dog, dusie, elimae, Greatcoat and OR. Beard of Bees published an online chapbook, Coffee Hazilly, in 2007. Maloutas won the 2008 Sawtooth Poetry Prize for The Whole Marie.
