On Thursday, April 10 from 6-9PM the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce and Otis College of Art and Design will co-host a panel discussion on the “Faces of the Creative Economy,” inspired by the quickly emerging creative, media, technology and economic prowess of Silicon Beach. With innovation at the core of many creative and technology-based startup companies emerging throughout the Los Angeles area, this event will provide Angelenos with an opportunity to celebrate local product design and technology-focused entrepreneurs.

The event will begin with a brief overview of the 2013 Otis Report on the Creative Economy, presented by Kimberly Ritter-Martinez, Economist, Kyser Center for Economic Research, Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation. Current panelists include: Jen Bilik, Founder of Knock Knock, a product design company based in Venice that “puts the fun in functional” through the production and sale of witty products including office, organizational, and bedtime related objects;  Ryan and Adam Goldsten, co-founders of Athletic Propulsion Labs (APL) and former basketball and football players at the University of Southern California. APL is “dedicated to providing exclusive high-performance athletic footwear and apparel products utilizing a combination of breakthrough technology, advanced materials, and innovative product design.” The event will end with a set from solar DJs Object Control, Mark X. Farina and Matthew Horne.

Otis’ Director of Foundation Relations Christine Leahey welcomes the public to campus and remarks, “The 2013 Otis Report on the Creative Economy documents that Los Angeles and California are creative capitals of the nation. In partnership with the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce, we are pleased to put a face to this phenomenon with thought-provoking, accomplished professionals who are driving cultural and economic change.” Rachel Horning, head of the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce technology initiative Connect to Tech L.A. adds , “We are thrilled to offer this sneak peek into the creative products developed and distributed by our hand-selected panelists. It’s important to showcase local entrepreneurs whose ideas contribute to reshaping Los Angeles as we know it.”

The event is open to the public.
