 ion Day\, see what local high school students - working  with Otis faculty
  members Patricia Kovic and Michele Jaquis - have created when  challenged
  by the Skirball to explore  why democracy matters. \n\n\nSince  September
  19\,&#160\; the students from Lauren Kleinberg's  AP English class at Gra
 nada Hills Charter High School have developed the project\, Re-Creating th
 e United States\, collaborating with Kovic and Jaquis\, In-School  Artists
  in Residence\, and the Education Department at the Skirball. Follow their
  collective work in progress on  tumblr and  youtube. \n\n\nThis six-week 
 investigation of the artifacts featured in the exhibition\, Creating the U
 nited States\, which originated  from the  Library of Congress\, has devel
 oped into a subversive commentary on the promises of the United States and
  will culminate in a  student takeover on November 1 and a  public exhibit
 ion and community gathering on November 3\, both at Skirball Cultural Cent
