Lorcan O’Herlihy, FAIA, is the Founding Principal of Los Angeles-based Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects [LOHA]. Since LOHA’s inception in 1990, he has sought opportunities to engage the ever-changing complexities of the urban landscape, embracing the role of architecture as a catalyst of change.
In 2004 the Architectural League of New York selected Lorcan as one of eight “emerging voices” in the United States. In 2009, he was elevated to the prestigious College of Fellow of the AIA. Lorcan’s commitment to design excellence in comercial, educational and residential projects has earned him national and international recognition, including the 2010 AIA Los Angeles Firm of the Year Award and recent nominations for the 2013 Cooper Hewitt National Design Award, the 2013 Marcus Prize, and the 2011 AIA National Firm of the Year.  LOHA’s work has been recognized in exhibitions and publications across the globe.

Lorcan has taught and lectured extensively over the last decade, including at the Architectural Association in London; Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc); Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan; Columbia University; University of Southern California and the National Building Museum, Washington D.C.

Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects [LOHA]

Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects [LOHA] is committed to engaging the complexities of contemporary society. Our architecture takes place within real world politics.

LOHA approaches our work with ruthless optimism, questioning preconceptions while embracing project parameters. We believe that pragmatics can inspire a creativity that is at once resourceful, authentic and profound. We steep our work in rigorous exploration and we improvise; we pair poetry with reason to achieve essential solutions. We are driven to execute.

LOHA builds out ideas with the conviction that architecture can transform the communities and context in which we work.

Rooted in Los Angeles, we develop strategies that embrace and nourish the intricate social structures that are embedded within a city of increasing density and diversity. Here and beyond, we strive to realize projects that dynamically integrate and incrementally enhance people’s lives.

Since 1990, LOHA has built over seventy-five projects in three continents, ranging in scale and typology from institutional building to bus shelters, and from large-scale developments to single-family homes. LOHA has garnered over one-hundred design awards, including the 2010 AIA/Los Angeles Firm of the Year.
