Canvas Building Workshop

Using the Otis woodshop, students learn how to build professional quality panels and painting canvas using stretcher bars. Demonstrations cover multiple variations of supports along with techniques for surface preparation and gessoing to provide a variety of painting surfaces. Students complete at least one panel or stretcher by the end of class.

Prerequisite: None

First Class Materials: $15 lab fee payable to instructor for wood and canvas for one 18”x24” canvas or stretcher. Students should bring the following to the workshop: canvas pliers, staple gun (electric recommended), 3/8” staples, wood glue. If time allows, students can bring their own materials to build more.
