  • Otis Books is pleased to publish Tim Erickson’s debut collection of poetry, Egopolis, a textual journey through destruction, resistance, city, and the Ego, from ancient times to the present day. Erickson’s work has appeared in the Chicago Review, Western Humanities Review, and the Salt Anthology of New Writing. He lives in Salt Lake City.

  • Otis Graduate Writing students will read from their works-in-progress.

  • David Treuer is an Ojibwe Indian from Leech Lake Reservation in northern Minnesota and currently teaches at USC. He is the author of the novels Little, The Hiawatha, The Translation of Dr. Apelles, named a Best Book of the Year by the Washington Post, as well as a critical work, Native American Fiction: A User's Manual. In 2012, he published another nonfiction work, Rez Life.

  • Angela Flournoy’s first novel The Turner House was a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection. Her fiction has appeared in The Paris Review, and she has written for The New Republic, The Los Angeles Review of Books and elsewhere. Flournoy has taught at the University of Iowa and Trinity Washington University. She lives in Los Angeles.

  • Susan Choi’s first novel, The Foreign Student, won the Asian-American Literary Award for fiction, and her second novel, American Woman, was a finalist for the 2004 Pulitzer Prize. Her most recent novel, A Person of Interest, was a finalist for the 2009 PEN/Faulkner Award. With David Remnick she co-edited the anthology Wonderful Town: New York Stories from The New Yorker. A recipient of fellowships from the NEA and the Guggenheim Foundation, and in 2010, the inaugural winner of the PEN/W.G. Sebald Award, Choi lives in Brooklyn.

SHANGRILA 2013: BURRITO DELUXE was organized by STEVEN BANKHEAD '01and JESSE BENSON '03 from Friday 8/30/13  to Sunday 9/1/13 It included alums ROB FAUCETTE '05, MICHELLE CHONG '06, MOLLY COREY '01  BRIDGET KANE '12, JESSICA MINCKLEY '13, TOM NORRIS '02, SHALINI PATEL '12, graduate faculty  RENEE PETROPOULOS, and alum RODD ZINBERG '12. 

Alum MATTHEW CARTER '10 participated in the group exhibition THE ROAD from July 13 to August 17, 2013 at Luis De Jesus Gallery, Los Angeles.

Grads SHIVA ALIABADI and ANDREW CURREY were selected for the Barnsdall Municipal Art Gallery Juried Exhibition 2013,  July 28­ to September 22, 2013. SHIVA ALIABADI was awarded the second prize for her work.

Grads SHIVA ALIABADI and KRISTI BALTEZORE curated and were part of Rare Treat in the Otis GFA Gallery space in Culver City July 13-18, 2013.

Graduate Faculty RENEE PETROPOULOS had a one-person exhibition, Monument1-conjugation at the Proxy Gallery in Culver City from August 1 to August 31, 2013

Grads DAVID DEL FRANCIA, SHIVA ALIABADI, KATY COWAN, SOFIA LONDONO and alum JESSICA MINCKLEY '13 were selected to participate in GLAMFA from August 26 to September 5, 2013 at CSULB.

Graduate Faculty KORI NEWKIRK was awarded a FOCA fellowship for 2013.

Grad KRISTY BALTEZORE and alum TOM NORRIS '02 were part of Summercamp's ProjectProject with Luddite Fallacy from August 25—September 8th, 2013

Grad FA Chair ROY DOWELL has a solo exhibition of recent works at VARIOUS SMALL FIRES in Los Angeles from September 8 to October 19, 2013.

Alum ANNIE BUCKLEY '03 will be showing her "The People's Tarot" in the exhibition, "Tapping the Third Realm" at Ben Maltz Gallery, Otis College of Art and Design, and Laband Art Gallery, Loyola Marymount University, September 22 - December 8, 2013. On Dec 8 she will be giving a short history of the Tarot and readings from the new deck.

Alum BETHANY WRAY '12 will show her work in alum CALVIN PHELPS'  2A Gallery from September 8 to October 13, 2013.

Alum JOHN WESTON '07 has two works included in the Frederick Weisman Museum of Art exhibition Art for Art's Sake at Pepperdine University from September 7 to November 26, 2013.

Grad FA Chair ROY DOWELL has a one-person exhibition  at the Proxy Gallery in Culver City from September 1 to September 30, 2013.
