  • Jesse Benson (b. 1978) is an artist based in Los Angeles. Benson's complex practice is driven by the perversion of roles and representation that characterize his generational moment. In obsessively "skillful" objects like the Bureau Paintings, Catalog Page Paintings, Future Sculptures, and Repaintings, Benson constantly questions the authenticity of the document, the function of style, and the value of both art and artist. Benson is equally committed to a curatorial/organizational practice that openly overlaps and inspires his object production.

  • Marisa Silver is the author most recently of the New York Times bestselling novel Mary Coin. Her other books include the novels No Direction Home and The God of War (a finalist for a Los Angeles Times Book Prize), as well as two story collections, Babe in Paradise and Alone with You. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker and been included in many anthologies, including The Best American Short Stories and The O. Henry Prize Stories. Silver lives in Los Angeles.

  • Jesse Lerner is a filmmaker based in Los Angeles.  His short films Natives (1991, with Scott Sterling), T.S.H. (2004) and Magnavoz (2006) and the feature-length experimental documentaries Frontierland/Fronterilandia (1995, with Rubén Ortiz-Torres), Ruins (1999) The American Egypt (2001), Atomic Sublime (2010) and The Absent Stone (2013, with Sandra Rozental) have won numerous prizes at film festivals in the United States, Latin America and Japan.

  • Otis faculty member Dana Berman Duff will present a program of short 16mm and digital films in her "Catalogue" series.

  • Performing the Grid is an exhibition that brings together an intergenerational group of artists and cultural producers that utilize the grid as a performative strategy to examine, challenge and position philosophical, political, social, domestic, corporeal, and mythical perspectives. Rosalind Kraus famously wrote that the grid “functions to declare the modernity of modern art” in her 1979 essay, Grids.

Alum MATT WARREN '09 showed his drawings The Exiled Elite at 22 Smith Street Galleryin Guernsey, C.I. Britain, from Jan 5 through 7 2013.

Grad SHIVA ALIABADI took part in Doing Pennants organized by Paul w. Evans at the Fifth Floor Gallery in Los Angeles from January 12 to February 24, 2013.

Alum KIM FISHER has a solo exhibition Angus at International Art Objects Galleries in Los Angeles from January 12 to February 16, 2013.

Alum SABINE DEHNEL '03 will have an exhibition at Kunstverein Villa Streccius, Landau from March 16 - April 21, 2013.

Alum RAKSHA PAREKH '04 had a solo exhibition at LA Artcore Brewery Complex from January 3 to 27, 2013.

The Mid Residency GFA exhibition Snake Road took place in the Bolsky Gallery from January 14th - January 19th. Alum ADAM MARS '07 had a solo exhibition, PUBLIC PRIVATES at Gusford Gallery in Los Angeles from FEBRUARY 8 - MARCH 23, 2013

The MexiCali Biennial 2013: Cannibalism in the New World opens January 19 to April 13, 2013 at the Vincent Price Art Museum, East LA CollegeThe exhibition is co-curated by alum ED GOMEZ ('03) and LUIS G. HERNANDEZ ('03), features the work of work of more than thirty-three artists and collectives working in a variety of media spanning painting, video, installation, performance and sculpture. Otis Grad Fine Arts alumni SERGIO BROMBERG ('10), HELEN CAHNG (’05), MATTHEW CARTER ('10) FLAVIA MONTEIRO '12 and MATT MacFARLAND ('03) were included.

Grad MARCELA GOTTARDO participated in Surreal Salon 5 at Baton Rouge Gallery in Louisiana from January 2 to 31, 2013.

Alum CHRIS OATEY ’06 has a one-person show titled “Performing Methods” @ CB1 Gallery from Feb 24-March 31, 2013. He also curated the concurrent group exhibition “Performing Methods-in context”. Both shows open on February 24 and run until March 31st, 2013.
