Koror, Palau

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Description
Students work with Palauan artists and residents to design a Freedom Memorial project to commemorate those who lost their lives serving in the U.S. military from WW II to the present. In addition to meeting civic leaders and family members of the military, students present their proposals to many groups for feedback. They also enjoy the wonders of the South Pacific, including Jellyfish Lake, the only body of water in the world with jellyfish who do not sting.

This three year project began in 2011. During the first phase, students had the opportunity to meet Palauan civic leaders and family members of the military, and also present four design proposals. Now, in 2012, during the second phase of the project, students have worked to incorporate the designs from the previous year with the feedback collected to produce a final memorial design to present and share to the people of Palau. Next year, in the final phase, the students will realize the final project.
