The Brief:

The belief that artists and designers contribute to the evolution of our society is featured in the mission statements of many of the AICAD member institutions. With growing frequency, our peers are making innovative efforts to realize this mission in their curriculum. Read more (PDF).

Some of these Issues include:

The increasing impact and pace of change of digital technologies
The shifting demographics and characteristics of our nation and the world
Increasing population densities in urban areas and the related impact of human activity on the planet
The impact of globalization on the study and practice of art and design
The involvement of artists and designers in public policy and decision-making
The role of gender, sexual orientation, race, age, and ethnicity in art and design education
