POST 9/11 BENEFIT: Beginning August 1, 2009 veterans who served on or after Sept. 11, 2001 who had an honorable discharge are eligible for at least three kinds of education benefits:

  1. Tuition Benefits - post 9/11 GI Bill for $18,077.50 and Yellow Ribbon for the rest of tuition minus other non federal direct to tuition scholarship and grant.
  2. Housing Benefits - monthly housing stipend equal to the amount of basic housing for military personnel in military housing, adjusted by zip code. Basic Allowance for Housing Calculator
  3. Books Benefits - Up to $1,000 per academic year


Additonal benefits:

  • $100 per month for up to 12 months of tutoring
  • $2000 for one licencing or certification exam


Otis College is participating in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program up to $10,000 per student per year for any eligible undergraduate student.

An additional law also allows for an active member serving for six years and agrees to serve another four to transfer a portion of their education benefits to a spouse/or child (until the age of 26).

STEPS TO COMPLETE

STEP 1: Begin your application with the VA and indicate Otis as your choice for school

STEP 2: Contact the Otis VA liason is Art De La Fuente in the Records and Registration Office for inquiry or to let us know that you will be applying for VA benefits.  Contact him at 310-665-6952 or afuente@otis.edu.

STEP 3: If applying for Yellow Ribbon send the Yellow Ribbon Request for Participation form (pdf) to the Otis Financial Aid office along with the necessary documentation.  It is highly recommended that students with VA benefits still fill out their FAFSA to  maximize all aid.  Please note that a current month e-benefit print out from the www.ebenefits.va.gov is needed.
