Peer Mentor

Why you became interested in the Peer Mentor program?
I became interested in the Peer Mentor Program because I genuinely enjoy helping people and I believe building/developing relationships is very important. If I can facilitate that for someone else all the better.  As artists you (we) can’t always do it by ourselves, we’re going to need help from time to time.  An African proverb that I think illustrates this is: “If you want to go fast, go alone.  If you want to go far, go together.”

Most memorable moment as a first year student:
The most memorable moment as a first year student would have to be the final crit in my Sculpture class. Chairs were being thrown, people’s dander getting all riled up, people walking out of the class, it was pure bedlam!  In a good way though.

What did you wish to know as a first year student:
I wish I knew how much reading would be involved in art school.

What is it like to be part of the diverse community at Otis?
I have to say its rather refreshing being a part of such a diverse community at Otis.  I have friends I’ve known my whole life or are mainly from Southern California, so coming to Otis and meeting people from different parts of the country and all over the world is quite nice, and getting to know them and hearing their stories has been a delight.
