Professional designers act as mentors in fashion design

11/08/10

In 2009-11, outstanding professionals serving as mentors for fashion design students include Bob Mackie; Cynthia Rowley; Ken Kaufman and Isaac Franco; John Cherpas of Hurley/NIKE; Steve McSween ('94) of Sean John; Ame Austin ('95) of MAX STUDIO.COM; Bleu by Rod Beattie ('86); Dawn Nguyen ('99), Brogan Terrell ('98) and Emily Bowers ('03) of Juicy Couture; and top designers at BCBG MAX AZRIA, Diesel, Forever 21, and Old Navy.

According to Chair Rosemary Brantley, students are learning about the new apparel business model, Triple Bottom Line: Profit, People, and Planet, designing fashion that reduces waste, uses fewer resoures, and is more respectful of human life. The Hurley/NIKE (below, Chair Rosemary Brantley examines recycled bag) and Cynthia Rowley projects exemplify this direction.
