    The annual Design Week for the MFA Graphic Design program at Otis College of Art and Design will launch with a Design Fair on July 9, 2017, from 12-6pm. Held on the college's newly renovated campus, the fair will feature lectures by visiting international designers from 12-1:45pm followed by the book fair from 2-6pm.

    Sitting in Sound is a guided meditation led by artist Jesse Fleming, and an immersive sound experience performed by Los Angeles-based musical duo Electric Sound Bath (ESB).

  • Amelia Gray is the author of the short story collections AM/PM, Museum of the Weird, and Gutshot, as well as the novels Threats and, most recently, Isadora, published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Her fiction and essays have appeared in The New Yorker, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Tin House, and VICE. She is winner of the New York Public Library Young Lions Award, of FC2's Ronald Sukenick Innovative Fiction Prize, and a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award.

  • Luis J. Rodriguez was Los Angeles Poet Laureate from 2014-2016. The twenty-fifth edition of his first book, Poems Across the Pavement, won a 2015 Paterson Award for Sustained Literary Achievement. He has written fourteen other books of poetry, children’s literature, fiction, and nonfiction, including the best-selling memoir Always Running: La Vida Loca: Gang Days in L.A. Rodriguez is also founding editor of Tia Chucha Press and co-founder of Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural & Bookstore in the San Fernando Valley. In 2016 Tia Chucha Press produced the largest anthology of L.A.-area poets, Coiled Serpent: Poets Arising from the Cultural Quakes & Shifts of Los Angeles. Rodriguez’s last memoir It Calls You Back: An Odyssey Through Love, Addiction, Revolutions, and Healing was a finalist for the 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award. His latest poetry collection Borrowed Bones appeared in 2016 from Curbstone Books/Northwestern University Press.

Students Place 1st and 2nd in International Interior Design Association Charette

Architecture/Landscape/Interiors seniors Ghadeer Alburaiki and Paulina Benavide win, on the 1st and 2nd-Place teams respectively, at the SoCal IIDA Student Design Charette 2015. 

The Southern California Chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), hosted its 2015 Student Design Charette at LPA, Irvine, on Saturday, November 14, 2015.

Thirty students from eleven different schools collaborated within six teams of five students each. Participating schools included the Art Institute San Diego, Art Institute Inland Empire, Cal State University Long Beach, Cal State University Northridge, Design Institute of San Diego, Interior Designers Institute, Mt. San Antonio College, Orange Coast College, Otis College of Art and Design, San Diego Mesa College, and Woodbury University.

The students were presented with a design problem and were given 4.5 hours to solve it, create a concept board with their solution, and prepare a presentation.

Ghadeer’s first-place winning team will be recognized and presented their $10,000 award at the IIDA SoCal Calibre Design Awards in May 2016 and will be representing the IIDA SoCal Chapter at the second annual IIDA Westcoast Regional Student Design Charette, which will be held in Seattle, WA, in April 2016. The 2nd-place prize of $4,000  will also be split amoungst the team.
