2013 seniors' Studio 6: Building/Landscape "Going Soft" projects were sited in Seattle, WA. Students first worked in teams on Project No. 1 "PROJECTED PORT: Seattle 2100," which addressed the anticipated 3-5 feet rise in sea level in the Puget Sound by 2100. Students worked individually on Project No. 2, the "PACIFIC RIM DISASTER RESEARCH and EDUCATION CENTER."

Students focused on the issues (causes/effects), techniques and organizations of landscape form and ecology, and how these influence and can suggest siting and design strategy—in this case, that for a disaster research and education center. This relatively recent building type is both particular and increasingly necessary given the attention to the significant changes the global climate and resulting natural disasters affecting our built environment. - Greg Kochanowski, Senior Lecturer, Studio 6 Instructor
