Opening Reception

At 4pm Artist Linda Vallejo will conduct an opening ceremony to honor the legacy of the women at the Woman's Building. The ceremony will pay homage to the elements of earth, water, fire, and air, the four cardinal directions, mother earth, father sky, and the great spirit. An altar will be built with special items donated by members of the audience that recall the relationships, memories and accomplishments of the Woman's Building community.

From 5pm to 7pm there will be a performance by The Waitresses called Order Up! A woman dressed as a waitress with a serving tray follows a customer dressed in costume who drops money for her to pick up. As the waitress bends down, her outfit reveals her sexually, as on of the "rules" is "the sexier the waitress, the bigger the tip."

Book signing with Judy Chicago and Jill Fields for the new publication: Entering the Picture: Judy Chicago, the Fresno Feminist Art Program, and the Collective Visions of Women Artists (2011 Routledge).

Convening Saturday and Sunday Oct. 15 and 16	Still Doin' It: Fanning the Flames of the Woman's Building Part convening, part symposium, part reunion, part performance, this event is a dialogue between feminist arts then and now. Includes reading at Antioch and concert at the Skirball.

Screening of Mother Art Tells Her Story followed by a tour of the exhibition by Mother Art, a collective of 8 women artists from 1973-1986 working on social and political issues, using performance, video, photography, installation and personal narratives. As mothers, they addressed issues that affect women and children. Video interview with original members Deborah Krall, Christy Kruse, Helen Million, Laura Silagi, and Suzanne Siegel.

This year’s Feminist Art Project day of panels organized by artists Audrey Chan and Elana Mann gauges the present and future of feminist artistic thought and practice. An altar, built for the opening ceremony of the exhibition, will be dismantled and items given away to visitors as a rememberance of the Woman's Building community and to share renewed creative energy with a new generation.
