Bringing Arts Education to the Community

by Michele Jaquis
ACT Director

The Artists, Community, and Teaching (ACT) program began in 2005 with what is now the Teacher Credential Preparation minor. Combined with the fi ne arts major, this minor allows students to waive the California Subject Exam for Teachers, the fi rst step in earning a teaching credential, which can be completed either at another university or through a school district internship. Otis is currently the only art school in California to offer this program, approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Commencement

Celebrate the accomplishments of 2014 grads! Friends and famlies are invited to attend the ceremony but must present tickets.

Parking is limited so please arrive early to get a good seat.

Eric Rodriguez ('12)

What was your most fun/influential class?
“Illustrated Book” really made me focus on why I liked certain ideas, and why I made certain choices. It taught me to get to the heart of a project and be consistent with that concept. I definitely did some of my most unhindered and honest work.

What is your hometown? I grew up in Visalia, California.

What originally attracted you to Otis?
I expected to be held to a very high standard, and knew that demanding a lot from myself was the best way for me to progress.
