Zen Sekizawa has been working as a photographer, director, and artist for over two decades in her hometown of Los Angeles, CA. She is second-generation Angeleno and fourth-generation Japanese-American. Her childhood was spent at The Atomic Cafe, a Los Angeles punk rock institution, owned and operated for over four decades by her family in Little Tokyo. Raised in and surrounded by creativity, chaos, music, dark humor, and the inclusivity of the cafe, she has formed a surreal, funny, and beautifully subversive aesthetic that is all her own.

Improve Your Photo Skills with Laura London’s Introduction to Photography Class at Otis College Extension

Teaching digital natives the artistry and skills behind traditional black-and-white photography—students, some of whom are accustomed to taking photos with their cell phone cameras whenever inspiration or a great selfie opportunity strikes—doesn’t require the leaps and bounds one might assume. “There’s a strong interest in learning film photography at the moment,” says Laura London, who teaches students of all experience levels as part of Otis College’s Extension program. “I’ve heard feedback from my students that it helped them with their digital photography.”
