  • For decades, the Los Angeles–based artist Lita Albuquerque has blurred distinctions between Land art and Light and Space on increasingly grander scales, whether it be building installations surrounding the pyramids in Egypt or placing sculptures across Antarctica to mirror the formation of the stars. Her cosmic explorations continue with two new bodies of work that are currently being shown at Kohn Gallery in Hollywood, from January 9 through February 27, 2016, and at USC’s Fisher Museum of Art, from January 26 through April 10, 2016.

Kerry James Marshall

Inside the Studio of Alumnus Kerry James Marshall with Artsy

No one’s going to let you into the art world. This is a reality that Kerry James Marshall ('78 Fine Arts), one of America’s most esteemed painters, whose numerous accolades will be burnished this year with a major retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago (MCA Chicago) that later travels to the new Met Breuer in New York and MOCA in Los Angeles, knows well.

ALUMNUS KERRY JAMES MARSHALL SET FOR MAJOR THREE-CITY RETROSPECTIVE

In many ways, Chicago-based artist Kerry James Marshall ('78 Fine Arts) has depicted the African American experience on canvas much as playwright August Wilson chronicled it for the theater. And beginning this spring, Marshall’s work will be seen in its first retrospective exhibition, “KJM: Mastry,” which will open at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago (April 23 – Sept. 25, 2016), move on to New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art (Oct. 25, 2016 – Jan. 29, 2017), and finally be on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles (March 21 – July 2, 2017).
