Pilar Castillo is a Belizean-born artist and designer based in Los Angeles, California who proudly represents her tropical roots as part of the Caribbean diaspora. She has dedicated 20 years as an art practitioner and professional in the L.A. art community with a focus on public art. Pilar’s work is recognized for her intentional handmade processes to design work ranging from publications to product design. In 2018 she ventured into entrepreneurship, opening CastlePillar Design studio, most notably designing artwork for the 2018 launch of the LAX Terminal 1 for Los Angeles World Airports. Pilar is a featured designer with the LA ORIGINAL brand, a creative initiative with the office of the Mayor of Los Angeles. 
Pilar holds an MFA in Graphic Design from Otis College, and a B.A. in World Arts and Cultures from UCLA’s School of Art & Architecture. She has completed field studies and collaborations in Amsterdam, Belgium, and Cuba. She has served as U.S. Cultural Ambassador to El Salvador as part of a team conducting community workshops and mural production. Her work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times and Hyperallergic.
