Ale Washington works with a vast range of different mediums of art and design, from fashion to creative direction to product design and fine arts. She grew up in different countries, including Mexico, France, and the United States. She believes that diversity, cultural awareness and the ability to be uncomfortable are crucial traits when it comes to creation, or life for that matter.

Her work is often influenced by behavioral and cognitive tendencies, organic imperfections, and the ridiculousness of societal standards.
 

Subsidium

Though an obsession with modification and constant change, Subsidium was made as an effort to provide options within one product.

This supporting platform allows for the comfortability of experimenting with multiple textures, colors and variations of laces, ribbons, fabric depending on the desired look or mood — essentially anything that can function as a supporting material to join the flesh to the wooden matter.

We recognize the evolution of beauty standards today. Social media steadily dictate new physical guidelines every day; there is an increase within surgery and the obsession within digital manipulation in the way for which we portray ourselves to our society. It is common today for people to get botox, hyaluronic acid on their lips, cheekbones, chin, jawline, smile lines. People get their eyes pulled, and their face filled. While surgery is prevalent, digital filters on Snapchat, Instagram, or other applications bring the same effects for those who will not go through the length of surgery or physical procedures.

Frozen Steel

For years, eyewear has been utilized not only for function but also for style. It is common today to see people wearing them not for protection but as a fashion statement, indoors or even at night. 

Through design, we create a piece of jewelry that does not identify with regular eyewear, it provides facial decoration—essentially called facial jewelry.

PPE BIOMIMICRY
Through the challenges of today’s world pandemic, COVID 19, demand and effectiveness of protective equipment is of high importance. We develop a high technology personal protection equipment that substitutes the use of the disposable.

We use inspiration from nature in order to provide better protection and a better alternative for the planet. We mimic the texture from sharkskin into the product, imitating micro texture from their scales promoting antibacterial properties picking up dirt particles and cleaning the surface along the way. The product was also inspired by the tree pangolin, imitating its ability to transform and collapse. As it is important today to have protective equipment that can be easily removed, cleaned and transported.

 

LADRILLO
We display something organic and beautiful from something as cold as concrete. Imitating the concept of nature finding its way through the concrete cracks humans have built-in our industrialized society. Believing that organicity and holisticism always find their way through and that there is no lie that doesn’t come out of sight forever. There is a natural way for things to come into place. no matter what.

PHLOEM CREATURES 

Phloem are the cells in plants that transport energy from root to end.

We integrate natural creatures of life to characters of imperfection. Giving birth to a hybrid being of growth and vulnerability. Immobilizing beauty through solid and organic with a series of sculptural vases. 
 

COPULATIO

Copulatio is a concept piece, re-structuring the idea of sex play through a sculptural object. We forged this product – essentially a sex toy – after the ideology behind genderless sexuality, inspired by leopard slugs.
