Hi, my name is Byung-min Kim, but everyone at Otis College of Art and Design calls me Joey. I am graduating in May 2020 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Media department as a concept artist. I worked as a concept design intern at a fashion brand where I was in charge of designing its mascot characters. I am also trained to do environmental work, in which I utilize matte painting skills. I am confident in using Adobe Photoshop and am comfortable using other Adobe software such as Illustrator and Acrobat. I have experience in using 3D software like Maya, Blender, and Zbrush, and integrating the 3D assets into my work. I am a designer, painter, and a problem solver. I am very persistent when it comes to building concepts and getting the right results. When I set a goal, I will find my way to get to that goal.

Android Frankenstein is a redesigned version of the classic horror story, Frankenstein.
The theme was changed to sci-fi/steampunk. An engineer gifted with an overwhelming talent succeeds in building an android. The android was given an advanced artificial intelligence that out-smarts the creator himself. The android is obsessed with the ambition to become a real human being and attempts to make his organic body by cloning the engineer and transferring his AI data. Eventually, the android will try to kill its creator and take his place once the cloning is completed. The engineer must stop the android to survive..."

The Gatekeeper - Gon, the invader. Gon is an intelligent being from a different world that attempted to invade Earth through a portal that links the two world centuries ago. Although he brought an army, the majority of them were killed when passing through the portal from an unknown malfunction. After the defeat, Gon was imprisoned underground and forgotten by the earthlings. In the present day, Gon succeeds in breaking out of imprisonment and finds out the only way back to his world is through a young earthling that he encounters. The concept of the creature was influenced by a mythical creature Wendigo and a Korean Ha-hoe mask.

The Gatekeeper - Peter, the protagonist. Peter is a young man from Arizona. He runs into an alien being named Gon, who was imprisoned after it failed to invade Earth. Peter gets swallowed up in the transmission from Earth to the alien world when Gon opens up the gate between the two worlds. Now in the other world, Peter has to find a new gate that will take him back to Earth while also getting rid of Gon, who continually attempts to induce him to help its revenge against Earth.

The Gatekeeper - Gon, the invader (3D). This is a 3D model sculpture of Gon based on the illustration. Modeled in Zbrush, rendered with Substance Painter, and edited the posed model with Photoshop.

The GateKeeper - Forest Tomb. An environment idea for The GateKeeper. In an alien world, there are gates (portals) that connect to Earth, hidden in various locations.
This is an idea for a tomb in a rainforest, a location where the gate to Earth may be hidden.

The GateKeeper - The Tree Gate. An environment idea for The GateKeeper. In an alien world, there are gates (portals) that connect to Earth, hidden in various locations. This is an idea for a gate in a tree, a location where the gate to Earth may be hidden.

"The GateKeeper - Ruined Temple.  An environment idea for The GateKeeper. In an alien world, there are gates (portals) that connect to Earth, hidden in various locations.
