The ACT Program works closely with Career Services as students complete both for-credit internships and paid off-campus work-study positions in art/design education.  

While ACT Alumni may pursue completion of the Single Subject Teaching Credential or graduate school in Fine Arts, Design and/or Education, they also pursue careers listed below.

Notable Alumni

Francis Almendárez (ACT: TCP '13), earned his MFA at Goldsmiths University of London, exhibits his work widely, and has taught at University of Houston and Houston Community College in TX. See his work here.

Raul Baltazar (ACT '08) earned his MFA in Public Practice from Otis and exhibits internationally. He is a recipient of both a California Community Foundation Fellowship for Visual Arts at The Armory Center for The Arts Teaching Fellowship. See his work here.

Hanabee Cartegena (ACT: CAE '20) is the Distance Learning Programs Manager at reDiscover Center.

Kai Ning (Kennie) Castro (ACT: TCP ‘19), currently pursuing her MA in Teaching at MICA, after teaching at charter schools, arts organizations, and summer camps in both Los Angeles and Philadelphia. Watch Kennie teach on the Fleisher Art Memorial YouTube channel.

Carly Strauss Fox (ACT ‘09), earned her credential and currently teaches art at RK Lloyde Continuation High School in Lawndale, CA. Check out her Instagram with posts of her modeling the clothes she makes while dancing in her art classroom.

Jessi (Bahtia) Kim-Saad (ACT ‘08) earned her Single Subject Teaching Credential from Chapman University and teaches art at St. Junipero Serra Catholic School in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. 

Taryn Möller Nicoll (ACT: TCP ‘12), received MFA in Painting from Louisiana State University and is now Program Coordinator at Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery in Pembroke Pines, FL and Adjunct Professor at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. See her work here.

Yeltsin Penado (ACT: CAE ‘18), has taught at Digital Dragon and is now the Programs Manager at reDiscover Center.

David Roy (ACT: TCP ‘13) received his MFA in Sculpture from Yale and is now part-time faculty in Fine Arts and Creative Action Otis. He is also the founder of BLACKNASA, a space agency that “promote[s]  the use of rockets for peaceful purposes only.” See his work here.

Giovanni Rubio (ACT: CAE ‘09) has worked with Mobile Mural Lab and the Sun Valley Youth Art Center, and currently teaches at Home Boy Art Academy. See his work here.

Diane Song (ACT: TCP '19) earned her MA in Teaching and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from USC. Currently she is a 7th grade teacher at California Creative Learning Academy.

Lyndsay Sullivan (ACT ’10) earned her MA in Creative Arts Therapy from Hofstra University in NY which she applies towards her practice as a yoga instructor and Reiki practitioner.

Marissa Magdalena Sykes (ACT '08) In addition to exhibiting and performing her art, Marissa is a Lecturer for UCLA's Visual And Performing Education Program and the Director of Arts Education at Angle's Gate Cultural Center. See her work here.
