The Environmental Design program at Otis College of Art and Design is excited to begin its Fall Guest Lecture Series with Aroussiak Gabrielian!
AROUSSIAK GABRIELIAN, PH.D., FAAR, is an environmental designer and bioartist with training in architecture, landscape architecture, and media arts. She is the Director of Design at FOREGROUND DESIGN AGENCY, a transdisciplinary design practice operating between the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism, and the arts. Her research utilizes expanded media and methods to develop new ways of engaging with the spatial, situational, temporal, and tactile phenomena of landscape.
As part of FOREGROUND, Aroussiak deploys design methodologies that use future scenarios as tools to understand better the present and that use design as a means of speculation. Before her own practice, Aroussiak worked at Snøhetta in New York City on various architectural and landscape architectural projects, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art expansion and the Guadalajara Museum of Environmental Science.
Aroussiak is a member of the Association of Professional Futurists and a consultant for futures-oriented design work. Aroussiak is presently an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture and Urbanism at the USC School of Architecture and an Affiliate Faculty of Media Arts and Practice at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. She recently launched and directs the Landscape Futures Lab, a design-research incubator for climate innovation and imagination.
