Bassoon Performance: John Steinmetz Performance and Conversation

Bassoonist John Steinmetz Performs and Converses with the Audience
Playing live bassoon inside the exhibition Angie Bray: Shhhh, Steinmetz will react to Bray’s installations by playing some of his own music as well as new compositions, and will converse with the audience, who are encouraged to sit or roam through the gallery looking and listening.

John Steinmetz plays bassoon for concerts, TV shows, and movies, and writes music for the likes of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Music Northwest, Juilliard School faculty, players in the San Francisco Symphony, and ensembles around the country. Some of his pieces have a role for the audience, some explore basic problems like the relations between humans and the rest of nature, and some are funny (one piece requires cheese slices; another needs goldfish). Steinmetz’s music appears on CDs from various labels. He lives in Altadena, under the influence of the mountains.
