Exhibition Call for Entries: Off Piste: The Book as Surreal Object
Exclusive to Otis College of Art and Design, all current BFA and MFA Otis students and alumni are encouraged to submit 1-3 examples of artist books of their creation. Works in progress submissions will be considered and should include a proposal of 200 words or less with images.
The artist books should relate to the theme below:
Theme: The Book as Surreal Object: How does the current zeitgeist speak to a new generation of art informed by the unconscious mind? How does our digital, algorithm driven world spark new aspects of the irrational, the uncanny, and the dreamlike in bookmaking?
Jurors: Dagny Corcoran, Founder and Owner of Art Catalogues; David Platzker, Founder and Owner of Specific Object; Derek Kinzel, Managing Director of Art Catalogues.
Location: Art Catalogues’ virtual booth at Printed Matter's Virtual Art Book Fair.
Submission deadline: February 16, 2021 All entries must include this submission form.
Exhibition date: February 27, 2021
From the submissions, 10 artist books will be chosen for the virtual exhibition shown on February 27th. (Time is tbd.) One artist book will be chosen as the winner by the jurors. The creator of the winning artist book will receive a facsimile edition of Marcel Duchamp's Boite en Valise, courtesy of Art Catalogues, as their prize. A popular vote winner from the 10 juried works will be chosen by the Otis community. A separate popular vote prize will be awarded. The two winners will be announced at the end of the virtual exhibition on February 27, 2021.
