Design Week 2016 - GAME ON!
June 12 – 17, 2016
Each summer, the Graduate Graphic Design program begins with Design Week, a one-week intensive that exposes students to internationally recognized visiting artists who exemplify alternative practices. Design Week is a unique, core component of the limited-residency MFA program. This year’s visiting artists are representing design from Copenhagen, Paris, Miami, Amsterdam, and Buenos Aires.
At the end of the day on June 12th, there is a special public lecture, featuring designers from all participating Design Week 2016 studios.
Starting the week’s workshops will be “The Design Game,” a day-long site-specific game introducing students to graphic design and architecture as it is practiced in design-centric cities. Directed by Dutch graphic designer, Petr van Blokland, this will be an exercise in collaboration, design processes, problem-solving and client relations.

Workshops and Partners
Following Design Week, weekly 3-day workshops will be led by a variety of faculty including visiting artist Janna Ulrich. Each workshop team will work with a Los Angeles-based organization that serves to make a difference in small and large communities. Workshops will run Monday–Friday, with six teams of students from participating schools (Otis, Sint Lucas - Gent, Sint Lucas - Antwerp, UCLA and Cal Arts), visiting artists, and faculty.
