Marvin Inouye

The Otis Community is invited to a lecture by Marvin Inouye in Liberal Arts and Sciences faculty Marsha Hopkins' Civil Rights: Then and Now course. Marvin will be speaking about the history of Japanese incarceration.

From Inouye:

In 1971, having grown frustrated with college, I dropped out, flew to Europe, hitchhiked, and traveled by Eurail for two months. Upon returning, I refocused, earned a degree in Industrial Studies, and began a teaching career in commercial photography. By extending the classroom beyond the four walls, I took my students on domestic and international photo safaris.
Throughout my career as a photo instructor, I was blessed to have come in contact with some extraordinary talent whose careers have encompassed fine art, advertising, wedding, portrait, sports photography (photographing the 2019 Super Bowl for the NFL), and becoming head of the photography department at Hallmark cards.

Besides being married to a brilliant wife and mother for 30 years, I am blessed with twin 26 year old young men; one who is in Japan studying the Japanese language in order to earn his masters in Japan, and the other in graduate school on the East Coast.

I retired in 2012 and enjoy social dancing, fishing, camping, traveling, and volunteering at the Pasadena Buddhist Temple. My current passion is volunteering at the Japanese American National Museum and researching West Coast history and the U.S. concentration camps during WWII that incarcerated my grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, in laws, and friends. I am trying to prevent history from repeating itself!

With continued good health and a decent healthcare program, Life is good!
