Immersive Art Experience Discourse Anonymous opens at Otis College
Showcasing the work of five students who take an experiential approach to examining mental health
Otis College of Art and Design’s MFA Collaboration class is pleased to present Discourse Anonymous. The group exhibition will be open to the public on Nov. 18, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. for one night only. An open bar and snacks will be available throughout the reception at the MFA Fine Arts Studio Building at 10455 Jefferson Blvd, Culver City, CA 90232.
Discourse Anonymous features all-new work from Ray Foliente, Mai Thai, Erica G. Peralta, Emory Hall, and AliCat (Ali Minette). These artists are all multidisciplinary and work with a multitude of mediums including installation, video, photography, performance, sound, and sculpture. This work encompases various forms of artistic therapy, imagining the concept of boundaries in physical and metaphorical space. It is open to all who appreciate the therapeutic value of art. Guests are highly encouraged to interact with the artists and other participants in an institutional setting, where it is commonplace to have the viewer separable from the piece.

Living during a global pandemic has had a profound impact on the vast majority of humans; it has dramatically changed the way in which we think about and interact with each other and space, both public and private. It has also allowed many to slow down and consider mental health as well as the repercussions of living under late-stage capitalism. Fear, isolation, ennui, and frustration have been endemic to pandemic life. Discourse Anonymous seeks to provide outlets to vent, relax, and enjoy experiences geared towards audiences with open minds and divergent perspectives that may wrestle with these difficult feelings. This collection of works is an intervention, a call to action to delve deeper into your subconscious through artistic prompts. Boundaries are discussed and practiced, guidelines are elucidated, and rules are bent as the spaces uplift vulnerable disclosure.
