Jill Mulleady

Los Angeles-based painter Jill Mulleady was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Later she moved to Paris, where she studied theatre with Ariane Mnouchkine at the École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq. Turning her attention to painting, Mulleady attended the Chelsea College of Arts in London, graduating with an MFA in 2009. She focuses on creating realistic figurative works that vary in content—mystical, realistic, mythical, and historical, from fantastical surrealism to scenes of everyday life. Going beyond the realm of painting, Mulleady has also been known to enhance exhibitions with ready-mades, sculptures, and installations. She also was featured at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019 and in various collections, including the Smithsonian.

Mulleady has been featured in solo shows at: Decline & Glory, Gladstone Gallery, Brussels (2020); Fight-or-Flight, Swiss Institute, New York (2019); Mouth-to-Mouth, Galerie Neu, Berlin (2018); Void of Course, Schloss, Oslo (2018); Angst vor Angst, Kunsthalle Bern (2017); This is not a love song, Gaudel De Stampa, Paris (2016); and Fear, Naples National Archaeological Museum (2015). She's also been included in the following group exhibitions: Made in L.A. 2020: A Version, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2020); Feel the Sun In Your Mouth, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C. (2019); Claude Mirrors, Schinkel Pavillon, Berlin (2019); Noise!, Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem, Netherlands; Mandla Reuter: Wasser, MAK Center for Art and Architecture, Los Angeles, CA.
