Roxy Farhat

We welcome Roxy Farhat to initiate our Spring 2021 MFA Fine Arts Lecture Series. Farhat radically updates “the legacy of her forerunners in feminist cinema.” Her experimentation with music videos, performance art, and re-enactment reveals work rich in humor, double entendre, and exaggerated commentary. Saturated color and throbbing sound confuse and enhance questions of social identity. Slipping between genres, she is able to pose these questions and reveal sub-structures found in entertainment, advertising, and cultural clichés. Roxy Farhat was born in Iran in 1984 and resides and lives in Stockholm, Sweden. She has studied both in Sweden and the United States, receiving her MFA from our neighboring UCLA. Most recently she has exhibited her work at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Bonniers Konsthall, and Skånes Konstförening, Malmo.
