“Open Doors” Spring 2022 Otis College MFA Fine Arts Open Studios Exhibition

Otis College of Art and Design MFA Fine Arts presents its annual open studios celebration April 24, 2-5pm in Culver City. This year’s event will include the exhibition “Open Doors” featuring MFA artists Leo Alas, Caitlin Carney, Kai Chan, Sayer Delk, Erica Everage, Xixi Edelsbrunner, Ray Foliente, Danielle Foster, Emory Hall, Dani Iribe, Katherine Jarvis, Katherine Kesey, Henry Krusoe, Astrid Li, Larry Li, Merissa Mann, Alicat (Ali Minette), Tiffanie Peters, Erica Peralta, Suwichada Busamrong Press, Hayley Quentin, Sophie Roessler, Alicia Serling, Joseph Louis Sherman Jr., Krystyny Vandenberg, and Mika Yokota. “Open Doors” also includes a collaborative sound performance by Ray Foliente, Kai Chan, Emory Hall and Katherine Jarvis, and a Socially engaged performance by Ray Foliente, Lucine Luo, Michelle Ross, Ander Sanborn, Nicole Shen. The work in this exhibition investigates and explores the concept of open doors as portals instigating and embodying safe passage and reciprocal exchange across thresholds of time, space, worldview, and community. The exhibition’s paintings, sculptures, installations, sound works, and performances form a series of intersubjective dialogues that collectively negotiate the complex relationships of perception, aspiration and experiential knowledge within the liminal spaces existing between here, there, yesterday and tomorrow, community and institution. In addition to the exhibition and performances, audiences will enjoy music curated by Joseph Louis Sherman Jr., food trucks, an open bar, and have the unique opportunity to explore the individual studios of Otis MFA candidates, meet and talk with the artists, and see, firsthand, why the Otis MFA program and its artists comprises one of the most vibrant, diverse, relevant, and vital Fine Arts graduate programs.

Online Studios will be hosted by Xixi Edelsbrunner, an MFA Fine Arts student and chronically ill/disabled artist. All are welcome to drop by for any amount of time, to talk about the program, to look at art, or just to chat.
Covid guidelines
Visitors will be asked to show proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test taken within the last 24 hours. To ensure the safety of the community, medical grade masks will be required indoors for all attendees regardless of vaccination status.
