Visiting Artist Lecturer: Martin Wong

Otis Artists, Community and Teaching Program hosts a talk with Martin Wong, co-founder of Giant Robot magazine and Save Music Chinatown. Since editing every issue of the influential indie, international art, and culture publication's 16-year run, he has gone on to help create Save Music in Chinatown (SMiC). Drawing upon Chinatown's punk-rock heritage, Save Music in Chinatown is a DIY organization which promotes all-ages shows to fund the neighborhood elementary school's music program.  Wong, a UCLA graduate, has also written for interTrend Communications, edited for McGraw-Hill, and taken people on the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland.

Wednesday's talk will cover a lifetime of appreciation for underground culture and participation of DIY media to affect change, create communities, and have fun.
