Myriam Gurba

Myriam Gurba will read and discuss her work. Gurba is a writer and artist from Santa Maria, California. She is the author of the memoir Mean, a New York Times editors’ choice, and the story collections Painting Their Portraits in Winter and Dahlia Season, winner of the Edmund White Award. Gurba is also the author of the poetry collections, Wish You Were Here and Sweatsuits of the Damned. Her essays and criticism have appeared in the Paris Review, TIME.com, The Believer, and elsewhere. Along with Roberto Lovato and David Bowles, she co-founded Dignidad Literaria, a grassroots literary organization that seeks to revolutionize publishing. She has toured with avant-garde literary and performance troupe Sister Spit and her artwork has been exhibited at galleries and museums, including the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach.
