Textile Surface Design IA

Surface design is a growing field with applications well beyond textiles. This beginning studio course introduces students to the design of prints and patterns for fabric, paper, ceramics, and a broad spectrum of products. Students learn the basics of repeat patterns, research methods, making mood boards, sketching concepts, and the development of coordinated collections. Materials and equipment, drawing, painting, transfer methods, color mixing, and more are discussed and demonstrated. Lectures include design methodology, design themes and styles, and inspiring artist case studies. Students complete finished design collections for geometric, floral, novelty, and holiday, suitable for their portfolios.
