Asuka Hisa

Asuka Hisa is Director of Learning and Engagement at Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA). As an arts leader, educator, and curator, she propels new ideas in programming to connect art to all publics and leverages the ICA LA’s mission to “upend hierarchies of race, class, gender, and culture.” Prior to ICA LA, Hisa was Director of Education and Public Programs at Santa Monica Museum of Art and Arts Commissioner for the City of Santa Monica where she began her signature work of integrating the museum into the urban fabric through partnerships with city departments and public art initiatives. In 2019, she was the lead curator of the city-wide public art triennial CURRENT:LA FOOD with the City of Los Angeles. In 2020, she partnered with the LA County Department of Mental Health and Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) for We Rise public art projects in the Los Angeles State Historic Park. She has lectured on museum learning and engagement at UCLA and Art Center. She holds a Bachelor of Arts, Barnard College, and National Diploma of Fine Art from the Ecole des Beaux Arts, France. She is a recipient of the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres from the French Ministry of Culture.
