Jennifer Lopez's style: Designer Bao Tranchi dishes on custom-making the revealing sheer black dress for star-studded birthday bash

It took sheer genius to design J. Lo’s little black dress.
Jennifer Lopez debuted her most revealing look yet when she stunned in a skin-tight, mesh see-through number showing off her signature cleavage, toned tummy and killer curves at her 46th birthday bash in Southampton Saturday. But making the dress wasn’t the hardest part for celebrity designer Bao Tranchi.
“It was coming up with a fresh approach to sexy J. Lo. like ‘How do we redisplay her body in a new way that we’ve haven’t seen yet?'" says the L.A.-based designer who’s dressed Demi Lovato and Rita Ora.
That means strategically placing panels and geometric cutouts along her hips, back and neckline that cover just enough of the “Booty” singer’s assets. Tranchi opted to go with see-through to reveal the outline of Lopez’s famous derriere.
“It covers up everything that needs to be covered,” Tranchi assures, adding that the mesh material is “actually very easy to wear.”
Lopez rocked the haute look sans underwear and sported a clutch by Jimmy Choo and black Casadei heels while dancing the night away at 1OAK night club with on-again-off-again beau Casper Smart.
Since the former “American Idol” judge didn’t request a specific color, Tranchi decided to make her ultra-fit body the star instead by choosing a classic black.
“When you have so much going on you want people to just see the graphic cutouts and her body. It’s edgy without trying so hard,” she says.
The barely there number took some heat from critics who thought the dress was a better fit for a 26-year-old than a 46-year-old mother of two.
“No one with a seven year old should be dressing like this,” commented one reader on NY Daily News.com.
But Tranchi is a firm believer in the mantra, “If you got it, flaunt it!”
"Does age really matter if you have a banging body? Why are we as society shaming other people for loving the skin we're in?” she asks, praising J. Lo's bold style choices.
“It's like 'I'm 46, I'm a mother. I've been doing this, It's my birthday.'”
