Veronica Marshall’s Thesis Show Failed Perspective of Geometric Shapes plays around with the idea of irony and what constitutes the word failed. The idea of how perception plays with perspective in one's own life. Can perspective go with Failed?
Marshall believes it can due to how we use perspective in our everyday life. By using both geometric shapes and non-geometric to portray what is failed and what is successful in preconceived ideas.
Failed comes from Marshall’s personal experience having heard these words too much. Going back to the idea of judgement and how going in with expectations already, we are not as openminded as we may think. Marshall’s perception of failure is a strategy that hasn’t succeeded yet. She has not set the exhibition up for failure or deemed herself as one. By using surface and manipulation of texture and painting materials, she voices her attitude through her artwork to create a dialogue with the viewer. When asked why geometric shapes, Marshall said “perspective is considered one of the hardest things to draw.” The revolving idea in her paintings always comes back to judgment and preconceived notions of the viewer.
Veronica Marshall was born and raised in California. This thesis show Failed Perspective of Geometric Shapes will open virtually on February 27th at 5:00pm at Otis College of Art and Design’s Bolsky Gallery.
