Applications Are Open for 2019 Summer Programs at Otis College

Summer Programs at Otis College of Art and Design offer artists and designers the opportunity to explore and create in the unique and culturally diverse arts community of Los Angeles.

Now in its third year, the L.A. Summer Residency gives artists and designers full access to the College’s exceptional labs and shops, the opportunity to connect with a cohort of over 40 participants, and the space to create the work that is most important to you. Visiting artists include Ingrid Calame, Neha Choksi, Meg Cranston, Nikita Gale, Alex Slade, and more to be announced. Session A will take place May 19 - June 7 and Session B will take place June 9 through June 28.

The two-week Emerging Curators Retreat will focus on Los Angeles’ local art scene with powerhouse visiting curators. Perfect for diverse individuals looking to advance their artistic and curatorial skills. Through a series of talks, conversations, and presentations with professional curators, artists, and thinkers, and site visits to museums, galleries, studios, and alternative spaces, participants will be able to engage with the local art community and advance their careers as curators. Visiting curators and guests include Jeffrey Deitch, Ciara Ennis, Allegra Pesenti, Marco Rios, Paul Schimmel, Hamza Walker, and more to be announced. The retreat will take place May 22 through June 4, 2019.

The Fashion Design Retreat is a 9-day fully immersive program for designers of any level of expertise. The retreat, led by Amy Bond, Project Runway Contestant Season 16, uses a non-traditional approach to fashion design. Combining the exploration of manual construction skills such as patternmaking and sewing with innovative draping techniques, the participants dig into making things with fabric as well as other art materials and mixed media. The retreat will take place June 19 through June 28, 2019.

Limited fellowships are available. Priority applications are due by January 30, 2019, to be considered for a fellowship. The final deadline for all applications is March 1, 2019. There is no application fee.
