Otis College faculty member Pamela Blackwell, a noted photographer and educator, passed away on June 11, 2017. "All of us who knew Pamela will miss her deeply, she was a thoughtful instructor who cared deeply about her students," said Otis College president Bruce W. Ferguson.
Blackwell began teaching History of Photography and Fashion Culture classes in the Liberal Arts and Science (LAS) department in 1998 and had been a member of the Otis community for over 18 years. Chair of LAS Debra Ballard shares that Blackwell was “a wonderful colleague, friend, and faculty member who inspired and instilled confidence in her students.”
Blackwell’s professional work included a photographic commission for the Getty Research Institute's Scholar Program featuring one hundred eighty-seven environmental portraits of visiting scholars, a permanent installation, and 14 books of original photographs with explanatory text housed in the Institute's Special Collections. She also completed a photographic commission for Frank Gehry's Disney Concert Hall for Swiss magazine Archithese, which also appeared in several other international and local publications. She was a beloved teacher to students at Otis College, ArtCenter, and Los Angeles City College.
A service will be held Saturday, June 17, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm in the ArtCenter Student Dining Room.
