Summer Residencies and Programs at Otis College of Art and Design is pleased to announce speakers and visiting guest artists for the 2018 summer sessions. Keynote speakers will include Eric Fischl, Graham Harman, Jamillah James, Roxane Gay, and Shirin Neshat. As part of an expanded offering, several of the lectures will be free and open to the public.
Other speakers for the 2018 line-up include Connie Butler, Rita Gonzalez, David Pagel, and more for the returning L.A. Summer Residency. Not to mention The Fashion Design Residency, lead by Project Runway alum Amy Bond, and the Figurative Arts Residency, for which internationally acclaimed artist Eric Fischl is the keynote.
Designed exclusively for writers of color, the Anaphora Writing Residency, features visiting writers such as Kwame Dawes and Natalie Diaz, and is lead by poet and founder of Anaphora Literary Arts Mahtem Shiferraw. The Saas-Fee Summer Institute of Art (SFSIA) designed by visiting scholar and artist Warren Neidich, and includes Harmon, Alva Noë, Johanna Drucker, Arne De Boever, and more.
Powerhouse curator Jamillah James of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, will be joined by Hamza Walker, executive director of LAXART and others to give participants an insider look at Los Angeles' local art scene in the Emerging Curators Retreat. Additional programs include Wilderness as Myth, an art road trip for the more adventurous, and Nomadic L.A., a deep-dive into the cultural center that is Los Angeles.
