We continue to offer access to our labs, shops, studios and the library. We know how important it is for our students to have the facilities and resources that our campus provides made available to make work. So, while instruction remains online, we will continue to offer labs, shops, studios, and the library for student use. Access is available only by appointment.
The wood shop, metal shop, model shop, ceramics studio, printmaking lab, lab press, main computer lab, video lab, and photo lab are open by appointment. In addition to all of our existing labs and shops, two new maker spaces are also available by scheduling in advance—the Ben Maltz Gallery WORKPLACE, and the 5th floor Product Design Studio. WORKPLACE is open to all majors and is accessible through online sign-up. Many portable, hand-held tools, both manual and powered, are available. PPE, social distancing, and hygiene measures are maintained at all times.
Studio space in all of the undergraduate majors, and MFA Graphic Design, is also available by appointment. This includes the Fine Arts senior studios. The MFA Fine Arts individual studios offer unlimited access to MFA Fine Arts students.
These spaces are available in a manner that prioritizes safety. Capacity in each space has been reduced by 50 percent. Spaces have been re-configured to achieve significant social distancing. Plexiglass dividers have been installed in many of the more public spaces for even greater safety. Students are required to schedule their time in advance, to ensure reduced density. Students are also expected to sanitize the workspaces after use with cleaning supplies provided by the College.
For information on how to schedule work time in these spaces go to the Otis Forward Labs and Shops Resources page.
