Compass Rose Exercise
I received a faculty grant in Spring 2016 to cover enrollment and materials for 8 weeks in the Classical Painting Techniques course [at the Kline Academy of Fine Art.] The first assignment was to create what my instructor [Cheryl] Kline calls the Compass Rose exercise. This exercise taught me first basic skills for blending, glazing and getting comfortable with the medium of drying linseed oil. This project took about 2 weeks due to allowing time for paint to dry in order to glaze color on top of the monochromatic underpainting.
