2016 Academic Awards

2016 Valedictory Award

Sharon Kellermann, a Product Design major, has been named Valedictorian of the Class of 2016. This award is bestowed annually on the member of the senior class whose work presents the pinnacle of academic excellence. This graduate wears a special medallion at the Commencement ceremony. Sharon was chosen for her consistently stellar academic performance throughout her Otis career and the exceptional quality of her work, which has focused on detail-oriented, farsighted design.

Born in Munich, Germany to an Argentinian mother and Polish father, Sharon Kellermann brought to Otis an international, multicultural background. She attributes her high level of drive and passion for design excellence to all that she was exposed to through her many travels. In her words, “the sense of home is not limited to a single place; it can emerge as a feeling of comfort that can be evoked by good design.” Recently, she was honored by the Kamm Teapot Foundation Collection, which added to its holdings a special addition of her original vessel design.  Sharon also had the pleasure of interning for the product development arm of Williams-Somoma’s Pottery Barn division, where she contributed analysis and brand strategy related to a desk clock collection, the Functional Accessories category, and Millennial Home Furnishing behavior. Among her future goals is to professionally design new products in a way that facilitates communication and translates complex ideas into captivating product concepts for everyday uses.

In all these ways, and in so many others, Sharon Kellermann truly embodies the aspirations of the College. Samples of her work may be seen at sharonkellermann.com.
