Community-Based Learning

Field-based "experiential learning" with community partners is an important way to directly connect and integrate coursework issues with real world settings. In Creative Action (Integrated Learning) courses, multidisciplinary student teams work on environmental and social issues. Collaborating in community partnerships with nonprofit organizations and public agencies, Otis College students focus their creativity and efforts on real-world problems and make a positive difference in their local community.

Community Based Learning: Neighborhood Bridge

Creative Action students traveled to Palau where they presented their final designs for a commemorative monument to government officials.

Otis students in their Creative Action class collaborated with the Westchester community to help make the annual parade more exciting.

Bullying starts early. Otis Creative Action students listen to and record third grade student’s struggles on the playground, in the classroom and at home.

Creative action students collaborated to create 100 posters that present instances of bullying and narcissistic behavior and hung them in a “Pop-up” exhibition in the quad before the 2016 Presidential Election.
